About

I have been working in genealogy for over thirty years. What began as a personal curiosity about my own family grew over time into a calling and a profession.
It all began with an old photograph and a question: who were my great-grandfathers? The search for an answer led me to parish and state archives, and to the expert reading of older parish registers, and what I found was immeasurable - the story of people whose names had long been forgotten, yet had been part of me.
I wrote my first scholarly paper as a student of ethnology at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb, on a course dealing with the description of former complex family communities in Croatia, the so-called 'Family Cooperatives' (zadruga), where one of the tasks was to research and graphically present the genealogy of a complex family community.
My teachers and mentors of Genealogy as an auxiliary historical science were:
- —Prof. Jasna Andrić (1930 – 2019), Croatian ethnologist
- —Dr. sc. Stjepan Krivošić (1918 – 1999), founder of Croatian historical demography and a prominent cultural historian.
- —Prof. Jakov Stipišić (1920 – 2010), distinguished Croatian historian and leading expert in auxiliary historical sciences in Croatia, among which genealogy is counted.
My methodology: I primarily use the methodology of family reconstitution and the construction of historical genealogies according to the French demographer and scientist Louis Henry (1911 – 1991).
Today I work with families, parishes and associations searching for their roots. My approach is thorough: I rely on primary sources - parish registers of births, marriages and deaths, parish and state archives, fieldwork and the verification of every single detail. Nothing stays at the level of a story - everything must have its authentic source.
Alongside the research side of the work, I also practice its artistic side. I draw every family tree by hand, according to the historical and graphic principles of genealogy, yet tailored to the family it belongs to. Each tree is unique - there are no templates, no copies.
I am particularly proud of the years-long collaboration with the Postulation of the Archdiocese of Zagreb, the institution entrusted with directing, collecting documentation and promoting causes for beatification and canonization, with which I, as an expert in family tree creation, researched and painted the family tree of the Blessed Alojzije Stepinac, Cardinal of the Holy Roman Church. The tree was presented on the 60th anniversary of the blessed's death, 10 February 2020, in Krašić, and is permanently exhibited in the Memorial House (the parish house where the cardinal spent his days of captivity and passed away) in Krašić.
I believe every family deserves to know where it comes from. That is why I do this work with care and respect for every name I enter into the tree.
